SINGAPORE, Nov 30, 2009 (Dow Jones Commodities News via Comtex) -- Japan's October copper cable shipments rose an estimated 5% from September, according to preliminary data Tuesday from the Japanese Electric Wire and Cable Makers' Association.
Shipments were estimated at 61,000 metric tons, down 14% from October 2008.
Confirmed shipments of 57,984 tons in September were down 17% from a year earlier.
The preliminary data show copper cable shipments to the construction industry were estimated at 24,400 tons in October, up 5% from September but down 21% from a year earlier.
The automobile sector's cable shipments were flat compared with September at 6,700 tons, although this was down 13% on year.
Official October results will be released late in December.
At 0200 GMT, London Metal Exchange three-month copper was at $6,928.75/ton, up $1.75 from Monday's kerb.
